Top-ranked Nelly Korda spearheaded a US charge, sealing a comeback victory in Saturday’s morning foursomes matches, as the United States extended their lead to 8-4 over Europe in the Solheim Cup at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.
Korda, alongside Allisen Corpuz, fought back for a crucial 1-up win against Carlota Ciganda and Emily Pedersen. The victory halted a European resurgence and brought the morning session to a 2-2 tie. Korda and Corpuz made history by becoming the first pair to win four consecutive foursomes matches across two Solheim Cups.
The US had established an early lead after going 3-1 in both foursomes and four-balls on Friday. Despite Europe’s strong challenge, particularly through Esther Henseleit and Charley Hull’s 1-up win, the Americans maintained control. A key moment came as Korda sank a 20-foot eagle putt on the 14th hole to put the US ahead in her match, boosting her tally to four wins and a draw from matches where she trailed by two or more holes.
Lauren Coughlin, enjoying a breakout year, paired with Lexi Thompson for a commanding 4&3 victory over Georgia Hall and Maja Stark. Europe’s Anna Nordqvist and Celine Boutier also secured a 4&3 win to keep their side in contention ahead of the afternoon four-ball matches.
