Peter Wright, known as “Snakebite,” pulled off a dramatic comeback to win the German Darts Championship, defeating rising star Luke Littler 8-5 in the final in Hildesheim. Despite trailing 5-2, Wright stormed back to win six consecutive legs, securing his first title of 2024 and breaking a tough run of form.
Littler, nicknamed “The Nuke,” looked poised for victory early in the match, showcasing moments of brilliance with an average around 115. The 16-year-old Englishman broke Wright’s first throw and surged ahead, but his momentum faltered as Wright clawed back into contention.
Wright, drawing on his vast experience, secured a crucial re-break to close the gap to 5-3, then broke Littler’s throw again to level the match at 5-5. From there, the Scotsman was unstoppable, sealing the next three legs and completing an impressive comeback to win 8-5.
This victory marks a significant relief for Wright, who has struggled throughout 2024, failing to progress beyond the third round on the European Tour and managing just two wins in 16 weeks of Premier League action. His last tournament victory was in October 2023 at the European Championship.
Wright’s Road to the Title:
Friday: Defeated Niko Springer (6-4)
Saturday: Overcame Stephen Bunting (6-5) and Gian van Veen (6-4)
Sunday: Beat Michael van Gerwen (6-4) and Dave Chisnall (7-5) before the final against Littler.
Wright’s triumph not only ends his title drought but also serves as a reminder of his resilience and ability to deliver under pressure, marking a hopeful turning point for the former World Champion.
