Chelsea winger Noni Madueke issued an apology to Wolverhampton Wanderers after scoring a stunning 15-minute hat-trick in Chelsea’s 6-2 victory over the home side on Sunday. The apology came after Madueke had sparked controversy with a disparaging social media post about the Midlands city before the Premier League clash.

Despite deleting the post, the damage was done, and Madueke faced boos from the Wolves fans every time he touched the ball. However, this did not deter the 21-year-old Londoner, who struck three times early in the second half to break the 2-2 deadlock and propel Chelsea to their first league victory of the season.

In his post-match comments, Madueke expressed remorse for his social media blunder. “I just want to apologize to everyone that I might have offended,” he said. “It is just a human mistake, an accident. It wasn’t meant to be out on my socials like that. I’m sure Wolverhampton is a nice town and I’m sorry. I expected the boos but you have to perform under pressure.”

Chelsea’s performance was spearheaded by Cole Palmer, who assisted all three of Madueke’s goals in what was a vibrant display of attacking football. Madueke also praised Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who joined the club from Leicester City after guiding them back to the Premier League last season. “Everyone saw what he did at Leicester last year, he is mad about the details,” Madueke said.

Maresca, who is tasked with managing a squad of around 40 players, highlighted the versatility of his team as a key strength. “We have to be more accurate. The intention is always good but we need to be more accurate if we want to play in the way we play,” he said. “I am lucky to have so many versatile players who can play in lots of different positions.”

Chelsea will look to build on this win as they continue their Premier League campaign under Maresca’s leadership.
