David de Gea’s potential transfer to Genoa has collapsed due to the goalkeeper’s high wage demands. The former Manchester United star, who has been a free agent for a year, was exploring a move to the Serie A club but negotiations have halted.

Genoa, managed by Alberto Gilardino, will now pursue other options to fill their goalkeeper position. The club had sold their previous goalkeeper, Josep Martinez, to Inter Milan earlier this summer and are in need of a replacement.

De Gea, who enjoyed a distinguished 12-year tenure at Manchester United with 545 appearances, has been without a club since leaving Old Trafford. Despite his impressive track record, including winning the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cups, and the Europa League, his wage expectations have proven to be a stumbling block.

With his future uncertain, De Gea had reportedly considered a return to United under different management. However, United have moved on, signing Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £43.8 million to fill the goalkeeper position. As of now, De Gea remains in search of a new club, while Genoa continues their hunt for a suitable goalkeeper.
