Brighton & Hove Albion have appointed 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler as their new manager, making him the youngest full-time boss in Premier League history. Hurzeler, who led St Pauli to the Bundesliga 2 title last season, winning 20 out of 34 matches, has signed a contract with Brighton until 2027.

Brighton chairman Tony Bloom praised Hurzeler’s achievements with St Pauli, stating his work made him a “standout candidate” to replace Roberto de Zerbi, who left at the end of the season. Bloom expressed confidence in Hurzeler’s style of play aligning with Brighton’s philosophy and anticipated that it would resonate well with the supporters.

Hurzeler will begin his tenure once he secures a work permit, in time for Brighton’s pre-season preparations in July. “The club has a unique history and bold vision for the future so I am truly excited to be part of the project,” Hurzeler said, emphasizing his eagerness to work with a team that shares high ambitions.

Despite his young age, Hurzeler will be leading a squad that includes senior players such as James Milner (38), Danny Welbeck (33), and Lewis Dunk (32). He surpasses Ryan Mason, who at 29, was the youngest interim manager in Premier League history when he briefly led Tottenham Hotspur in 2021.

First-team coach Andrew Crofts and goalkeeping coach Jack Stern will continue in their roles, with the rest of Hurzeler’s backroom staff to be announced soon. Bloom highlighted Hurzeler’s potential to fit seamlessly into Brighton’s vision and the anticipation for his contribution to the club’s future success.
