Jose Mourinho, the former head coach of Roma, is set to be unveiled as the new manager of Fenerbahce soccer club later today, the club announced. After days of speculation, Fenerbahce confirmed the appointment on social media platform X early Sunday, stating that Mourinho will attend a ceremony at the club’s Sukru Saracoglu stadium.

“Saracoglu is waiting for its new coach Jose Mourinho and its great fans at 19:00!” the club posted.

On Saturday night, Fenerbahce released a video message from the 61-year-old Portuguese manager, in which he told fans, “See you tomorrow in Kadikoy and let’s start our journey together.”

This marks Mourinho’s first managerial role since departing Roma in January. During his two and a half years with the Italian club, he led them to victory in the Europa Conference League in 2022 and was involved in several high-profile disputes with referees.

Mourinho’s career has been distinguished by success across Europe’s top leagues. Since leaving Porto in 2004 after winning the Champions League, he has managed Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham, accumulating numerous trophies and stirring controversy along the way.

Fenerbahce, who finished second to their fierce rivals Galatasaray in the Turkish league this season, have had their own share of disputes with Turkish soccer authorities, including a protest that saw the team walk off the field during the Turkish Super Cup game.

Mourinho’s arrival in Istanbul signals a new chapter for Fenerbahce as they aim to reclaim dominance in Turkish football under his experienced guidance.
