Brighton & Hove Albion have announced that head coach Roberto De Zerbi will leave the club by mutual agreement after their final match of the season against Manchester United. De Zerbi joined Brighton in September 2022, following the departure of Graham Potter, and led the club to their highest top-flight finish last season, securing sixth place. He also guided the team to the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League.
Brighton chairman Tony Bloom expressed gratitude for De Zerbi’s contributions, highlighting the club’s achievements under his leadership, including their first-ever European campaign. Bloom stated that the mutual decision to part ways allows both the club and De Zerbi to plan for the future. He thanked De Zerbi and his staff for their hard work and wished them well.
De Zerbi shared his sadness about leaving but expressed pride in the accomplishments of his players and staff. He appreciated the support from the club and fans over the past two seasons and mentioned that the decision to leave now gives him time to consider his future plans. He also acknowledged the challenges and enjoyment of working in the Premier League and competing in multiple competitions.
Along with De Zerbi, his assistants Andrea Maldera, Ricard Segarra, Marcattilio Marcattilii, Vincenzo Teresa, Agostino Tibaudi, Marcello Quinto, and Enrico Venturelli will also depart. However, club coaches Andrew Crofts and Jack Stern will remain. De Zerbi’s tenure saw memorable moments, including impressive victories over top teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United, and securing a Europa League spot. Despite a challenging 2023/24 season, Brighton still achieved notable wins and a strong performance in Europe.
